Airbags used to create a sustainable clothing line
Mercedes-Benz and designer Heron Preston have designed a line of clothing made with recycled airbags from the brand's cars to celebrate 50 years of this invention.
The inspiration for using this sophisticated material stems from the celebration of 50 years since the airbag was first introduced and four decades since it began to be used in the brand's cars. More specifically in the 1981 Mercedes S-Class, which was the first car to introduce it in its equipment.

GARMENTS THAT INFLATE AND DEFLATE LIKE AIR BAGS
This groundbreaking line of garments is not just any collection, as they are exclusive, high-quality designs created by renowned New York designer Heron Preston, who has strived to minimize the use of destructive production methods ever since she launched her brand in 2016. In 2018, she launched her Re-Design program, which creates one-of-a-kind pieces. from reclaimed materials, and this collaboration with Mercedes-Benz occurred under that umbrella.
In this collection there are garments for all tastes, both for men and women, made with recycled airbags from the German manufacturer's cars.
But that's not all, these garments inflate and deflate. Yes as you hear, Preston has decided to keep the nature of the airbags in each of the designs. In other words, in the same way that airbags inflate in a car in the event of an accident, whoever dares to wear these peculiar little outfits can decide to fill the garment with air to give it another presence. In addition, the logos or the seams on the parts will be visible, since the original details of the Mercedes airbags have been maintained.
Even if you think we're kidding you, nothing could be further from the truth. This exclusive clothing collection by Heron Preston has been presented at the Mercedes Fashion Week, held in Berlin and the garments were already available through the global platform GOAT.
