Makeup is also bitten by the nineties bug. Iridescent highlighters and metallic cream eyeshadows are making a comeback everywhere from Becca to Lime Crime, brands that have recently risen in popularity in the UK by making inroads into John Lewis and Feel Unique stores respectively. Lip gloss, of course, returns this season in an array of vibrant and juicy shades, not forgetting glitter lips, a makeup trend that swept the spring/summer 2018 runways evoking our beloved old glitter pots (now reformulated in luxury and in long-lasting formats by brands such as Cover FX and Stila). The industry loves 90s cosmetics so much that even MAC has rummaged through its archives to bring back some of the decade's most successful discontinued products, from frosted lipsticks to nude eyeshadows, all part of the new Throwbacks collection for this summer.

And if you thought that the hair was missing from the 90s date, big mistake. Did you use anything to lighten your hair in your teens, those blonder, chamomile-based locks? Well, hair lighteners are back, but this time by US cult brand Ouai and in a slightly more chic version called Sun Of A Beach Ombré Spray. It is heat activated, lemon and pineapple to clarify and coconut water to nourish, which means it also smells like a tropical cocktail. IGK is also launching a host of summer-ready novelties, including its own reflective effect spray, Summertime, and Pre Party Glitter spray, which coats your hair (and clothes, by the way) in ultra-fine glitter that lasts for weeks.

But the unmistakable and definitive sign that the 90s is the decade with capital letters in terms of beauty this summer is... the return of the 'scrunchie', which we owe, for example, to Balenciaga, Ganni and Mansur Gavriel. It's the perfect rubber band to hold your ponytail low and highlight –for sure– your radiant sun-kissed hair.
