Mexico has recorded three consecutive weeks with a reduction in COVID-19 cases and possibly a sustained reduction trend is already beginning, announced the Undersecretary for Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo López-Gatell.

He explained that 17 states have a clear trend of reducing the epidemic, as of this week, and that some states have a decrease for 5 or 6 weeks, such as Sinaloa.

“It is very probable that we will end the week, this coming Saturday still with a reduction, possibly 5%, this would already begin to be a clearer sign of a downward trend of the third wave,” said López-Gatell during the presentation of the report of “El Pulso de la Salud”.

In hospital occupancy, it was reported that there is a reduction in cases in the federal entities, including Mexico City and the metropolitan area of ​​the State of Mexico.

However, the undersecretary does not rule out the possibility of a fourth wave of COVID-19 infections in the country.

“As long as the pandemic exists, all countries have the possibility of having fourth, fifth and sixth waves. At this time in Europe several countries already have the fifth and sixth wave; The United States is in its fourth wave, almost fifth. It can happen at any time and that is why you have to be very aware of what is happening in each country, at all times.

“At this moment we can affirm that for three consecutive weeks there is a weekly decrease in cases, possibly a sustained reduction trend is already beginning, I insist on the qualifier, possibly, if this were different, we will inform”, he pointed out.

In the country, 56.5 million people have been vaccinated against COVID-19; 55% already have the complete scheme and 45% with the first dose.

Regarding the cross-border vaccination against COVID-19 between Mexico and the United States, more than 73,000 people have received the biological, reported the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Marcelo Ebrard.

He added that today 1,750,000 Moderna vaccines will be received, donated by the United States, and 4,600,000 doses of AstaZeneca will also arrive in the country.
