Fonatur uses the Mayan Train budget to buy souvenirs for 6.8 million pesos

EMEEQUIS.- Despite President Andrés Manuel López Obrador's calls for austerity in the federal public administration, FONATUR Tren Maya acquired organic wood and bamboo USB flash drives, steel thermoses, backpacks, mugs, stamps and pins in this 2021.

Within the tender for the acquisition of equipment, protective clothing and other supplies for the Mayan Train project for 6.8 million pesos, office items and executive clothing with the logo of the emblematic work of the six-year term were included, as well as as souvenirs.

Of the 42 products requested by FONATUR Tren Maya, only 11 have to do with protection-safety equipment and clothing for workers, such as boots, overalls, girdles, caps, vests, gloves, glasses, chin straps, waterproof raincoats, among others, for the staff of workshops, roads and transport operations.

The company CONSORCIO EMAUS S.A. DE C.V. LA-021W3X999-E184-2020 won the tender on February 12, 2021, just eight months after the start of the works in the southeast of the country.

The protective clothing and equipment were purchased despite the fact that the seven sections of the work –1,500 kilometers of railways– are built by contractors and by the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena).
