Among the experiences that María Félix shared about her youth in Sonora, the actress said that her entire family was used to riding horses, as she had grown up on the El Quiriego ranch. In an interview in which La Doña talked about her love of horses, she went back to when she would spend entire days with her brother Pablo. The two of them used to ride horses together, this was done in order to be able to play around a bit and practice their talents.

Berger was a French banker, they met when Agustín Lara, who was María's husband, went to play at a party at the French embassy. There they met, but they did not begin a sentimental relationship until the death of Jorge Negrete.

During the 18 years they were married, the protagonist of Doña Bárbara shared his passion for horses with the Frenchman, since he also felt a great affinity towards these animals and horsemanship, for which he was the owner of the best equines from France.

The banker put in the name of Félix a stable with up to 87 horses, one of the largest in France. All the animals had Mexican names such as Pancho Villa, Zapata, Río Escondido, others were high-sounding words such as Chingo and Verga, and those that paid homage to him could not be missing: Doña Bárbara, Doña Diabla and María Bonita.
