The Badajoz Provincial Council has allocated one million euros in social bonds for vulnerable families and small and medium businesses (SMEs) in 161 municipalities in the province.

The so-called "Social Council" consists of 10,000 cards issued in collaboration with the CaixaBank bank, with 100 euros each for expenses on basic necessities that will reach as many families in towns of up to 20,000 inhabitants, as detailed this Tuesday in a press release the provincial government.

To identify the most vulnerable people, the municipalities will send the Provincial Council the list of their neighbors with the greatest economic problems.

In addition, the use of the cards will be exclusive for the local business of each municipality.

In this sense, it can be used to buy food, clothing, footwear, school supplies, books, pharmacies and parapharmacies, and mainly medical specialists.

The Director of Social Welfare of the Diputación, Emilia Parejo, has defined the program as "beautiful but complex" and has ensured that a total of 4,500 cards have already been sent to those municipalities that have requested them, which can be spent until the end of May 2022.

The deputy for the area, Abel González, has informed that the bonds will be charged next week.

CaixaBank's Director of Institutions in Extremadura, Lorenzo Ballesteros, assures that any incident that a card may suffer will be resolved thanks to the entity's 24/7 service and has said that with this help line in the form of a card "no stigmatizes" its recipients.
