They present an application to correct the size of the children without testing their clothes

A mobile app allows parents to hit the size of the children without having to test their clothes, simply by taking a photograph with a smartphone. This is the app, Kidsize, developed by the Institute of Biomechanics (IBV) and the Spanish Association of Children's products (ASEPRI).

"with Kidsize we have designed a tool that, in a simple way, will help us to always correct the clothing sizes for our children. To do this we only have to take two photos with an app to get your 3D figure. The system processes the data and tells us what size we should choose and how the garment would look, "explained Asepri's director, LoreresSegura.

The Kidsize mobile app is a prototype that allows children to be measured in 3D and obtain more than 30 body dimensions by just taking a couple of photos. The results of the project show that with the app the measurements are faster and much more precise-with less than 1 centimeter of error-than if they were taken with a measuring tape (2 to 5 centimeters of error).

The other major innovation developed by IBV in the project is "the size allocation algorithms". As IBV's Industrial Innovation Director Juan Carlos González has pointed out, "based on the dimensions of our children that we have obtained with the app and information about the garment, Kidsize is able to give two size recommendations: the brand (recommended size to wear the garment now), and the parents (to last this season and the next)".

A very useful tool for children's fashion companies

The results of the project-they explained in the presentation-show that Kidsize provides adequate recommendations in 90% of the cases, thus exceeding the usual recommendations based on the height of the child's age, which achieve a 50% success.

IBV has explained that this carving allocation method has an additional advantage for companies: it is easily scalable for large clothing collections, as it only requires some information about the carving system and the quality control process followed by the brand or manufacturer.

The Kidsize project has been promoted by three business associations, the Spanish Asepri, the French Nova kid (Association pour le pilotage des Projets recherche Entreprise du Pôle Enfant) and the Children's fashion Europe (European Association of Children's products). The Kidsize project has been co-financed by the European Union.
