Where can I donate my flamenco dress in Seville?

Where can I donate my flamenco dress in Seville?

Two springs without the April Fair go a long way. In addition to the nostalgia of the most fairgrounds, there are many who in this interval have seen how their flamenco dresses are missing a few more sizes, they are no longer to their liking or how the smallest of the house are they have become small. So, the question arises: What can I do if it no longer works for me, where can I donate my flamenco dress?

In Seville, there are several points where they can be delivered or donated selflessly. In some, by donating the flamenco dress, you collaborate with a social cause that helps the most disadvantaged; in others, virtual communities present on social networks, they simply hang their suits and those interested post their comments to sign up for the list; the donor, either to the first on the list or whoever he considers the highest bidder, offers his suit.

Red Madre and its Solidarity Flamenco Dress Market at the Mercantil

From this same Saturday, November 27, until next Tuesday, November 30, Red Madre organizes its already traditional Solidarity Market of Flamenco Costumes.

Uninterrupted hours from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., at the Mercantil headquarters at 65 Sierpes Street, you can buy flamenco dresses and accessories at a reduced price.

On the occasion of this event, Red Madre Sevilla began a campaign to collect flamenco dresses and accessories two weeks ago, appealing to the solidarity of individuals and companies in the city and encouraging them to donate this type of item. With this campaign, called Give life to your flamenco dress, it is proposed to give a new use to the dresses and accessories that are no longer used through their donation. The purpose of the campaign is also to give visibility to the group served by the association, as well as to make visible to society the need to support women in their pregnancy and maternity.

The president of Red Madre Sevilla, Teresa Galán, calls on the public to visit her solidarity market that will feature, as in previous editions, some first-hand flamenco dresses and accessories, donated by flamenco fashion firms who have not hesitated to join this initiative and support the work carried out in the association.

Flamenco fashion market of the NGO Proclade Bética

In Heliópolis, there is the ONGD Proclade Bética (Claretian Promotion for Development). Founded in 1994, it carries out different development cooperation projects in impoverished countries, but it also acts in the national territory through social action projects, awareness campaigns, volunteer programs, and development education projects.

For some of these charitable purposes, the proceeds from the Flamenco Fashion Flea Market are used, which the NGDO has been carrying out since 2012, "with the exception of 2020 and 2021, which could not be done due to the pandemic ", explains Rocío Sánchez-Matamoros Galán, a volunteer for the charity.

They still do not have a defined date for this year's Flea Market, "but it is always done between Easter and the Fair, although the Rocío comes later and there are also many who visit us." Throughout the year you can donate flamenco dresses, shawls and accessories at the association's headquarters, during office hours, from 09:00 to 13:00 and from 16:00 to 19:00. "Here we pick them up and the volunteers are in charge of fixing them, if they need any mending, washing and ironing them."

The Flamenco Fashion Flea Market at Proclade Bética usually lasts a week. During this time, up to 300 flamenco dresses are sold. "Throughout the year, we can receive about 500 suits; then, in the Flea Market, everything is sold at a price that never reaches three figures", details the volunteer.

Thus, from 20 to 95 euros you can buy donated new or semi-new suits for women, babies or girls.

Those interested in donating their flamenco dresses can do so at the Proclade Bética headquarters (calle San Antonio Mª Claret, 18). You can also contact for more information or buy flamenco dresses at any time of the year by phone: 637 971 212.

Groups on Facebook to donate in Seville

The range of virtual communities created on social networks, such as Facebook, in favor of helping others or, simply, betting on giving objects a second life that we no longer need is increasing.

In Seville, groups like Tres Erres (on Facebook), founded by a group of parents from the Huerta de Santa Marina School, help to donate everything that is no longer useful to us. Currently, more than 4,000 people are members of this platform, in which some 14,000 photos have already been uploaded.

From clothes, furniture, decorative items, toys... and a long list of items are uploaded daily in order to find a new owner for them. Thus, those who no longer need their flamenco dresses and don't know what to do with it can post a photo of it and look for candidates to wear it at the next April Fair.

Inés Recio is the administrator of the group We Help Each Other Sevilla (Facebook). The young woman from Parque Alcosa, known for her generous work collecting selflessly donated toys so that no child is left without Santa Claus or the Three Wise Men, created this group where, in addition, they offer and search for basic necessities, clothing or any other object that can be donated for those who really need it. This can be a good forum to upload the image of your flamenco dress and give it a new life and owner.
