Caritas asks to donate money as a complement to food

The needs of people with few resources are many. In addition to guaranteeing basic food and hygiene products, they also need to cover other sections such as training, a roof to sleep on or personal improvement treatments. For this reason, this year, Cáritas Diocesana de Valencia has launched a campaign for Christmas to finance the welfare of people with less income.

With the motto 'Dóna amb cor' they propose to individuals and companies that they make economic donations to partially or totally finance issues as varied as new Christmas toys for children; teen gifts; hairdressing or grooming treatments or a day of leisure to improve self-esteem.

The campaign proposes eight alternatives and the donor has to specify on the web or through bizum the option that they prefer, such as helping with the shopping basket for the more than 2,000 people who attend; play the Three Wise Men for a day or give gifts to teenagers with the program 'Older, but not so much', actions that would reach more than 900 children and teenagers.

The donor can decide which of the seven projects he wants to finance with the economic contribution

You can also finance a day off at a cinema, theater or entertainment venue with the 'I'm going to have a good time' program; collaborating in the maintenance of a home or to finance training courses or pay children to be part of a sports team.

As the general secretary of Cáritas, Aurora Aranda, explains, "there are parishes that continue to collect clothes, toys or food, but we wanted to go one step further and offer them the possibility of financially supporting the projects we have prepared where we think of all the needs of people, not only in food».

In the case of the aid given for the shopping basket, "people receive a solidarity voucher or card and can go to supermarkets to buy the products they need, such as fresh products and, at the same time, we are committed to the small and local businesses".

"We encourage the hundreds of people, entities and companies that each year want to be supportive to do so by responding to the needs of those people we accompany, those we put at the center," explained the director of the institution, Ignacio Grande .
