'Palmeros de Madrid' is an initiative of some young university students who live in the Community of Madrid that began individually and by word of mouth to transfer necessary materials and products to La Palma, after the eruption of the volcano on Sunday the 19th. This communication has been increasing little by little and if at the beginning there were 20 friends, now there are 80 people in the WhatsApp group.

"Each one does the area that best suits them. We try to help the palm trees in an altruistic way," said Miryam Almeida, one of the palm trees who lives in Madrid, in statements to Europa Press. Luckily, her families have not been affected, but the young woman has indicated that her house is near the volcano and she still has "hope" that she does not take cover.

The collection of belongings began on Thursday in Getafe and, although the group has not been able to transfer the data of what they received, they had a "very good" one. For this, he thanked the people of Madrid for their solidarity. This young woman has asked that in the next collections citizens can bring new clothes, school supplies, sheets, small appliances, pajamas and toothpaste.

They have also received contact from many companies and people who want to help, not only from the region, but from Seville, Huelva, Barcelona, ​​Granada. "We did not expect this avalanche, we just wanted to join together to send some material. There are not enough words of thanks", she has expressed.

Likewise, the palm tree has indicated that "they will return" to carry out more collections in the coming weekends, although they have not yet specified the dates with their colleagues. At the moment, everything they have been able to gather has been transferred to a warehouse that the Spanish Police Confederation of Carabanchel has lent them. The materials will be sent through Correos and Iberia.

COLLECTION POINTS AND CONTACT

The materials requested by the group of clappers in Madrid are clothes for all sizes and of all kinds; food, especially for babies, canned, gluten-free, lactose-free, oil, non-perishable foods; diapers; blankets; towels; FFP2 masks; bedding and pillows; personal hygiene products; and entertainment for children and young people.

The collection points for this weekend will be on Saturday in Aranjuez, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Chiropractic Center (C/ Foso 88) and in Alcalá de Henares, specifically at the Casa del Pueblo (C/ Río Miño, 3) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and this Sunday in the capital from 12 noon to 6 p.m. at the Picnic Bar (C/Minas, 1 corner with C/Pez).

Likewise, there will be collection points in the northern zone in both San Agustín de Guadalix, El Molar and Pedrezuela, where you have to contact Sandro, through his Instagram @sandrogomezm.
