How much has it grown! Gerber Baby turns 94; this is how it looks now
When we think of baby food, the first thing that comes to mind is Gerber . Nestlé 's product is popular in much of the world, with its bottles and the well-known baby face that appears on the front of its products; baby who, today, November 20, 2020, turns neither more nor less than 94 years old.
Today we are going to tell you a story that was kept hidden for 40 years , and that was until 1978 when her identity, that of the original Gerber baby, was finally known. Here we tell you the story.
Who is the Gerber baby?
The Gerber brand has been around for a long time. According to the firm's website, its history dates back to 1867 thanks to the food inventions of the genius of Henri Nestlé, founder of Nestlé. It was in 1928 when they organized a contest to choose what their image would be.
Several artists were presented to the call, but between elaborate oil paintings, the executives of the company fell in love with a sketch made in charcoal by Dorothy Hope Smith , because they fell in love with that baby with bright eyes and disheveled hair.
Smith won the contest, and despite promising to make a better illustration of the baby, who was her neighbor, they decided to keep that sketch, which in 1931 would become the image of the company and would be distributed in its products.
Forty years later, the little girl's identity was revealed. Her name is Ann Turner Cook , a mystery novelist and English teacher who, to this day, still retains the smile that led her to be known anonymously in the world. Does it still look like?
